Founder Melanated Wine
Melanated Wine was created to decomplicate wine and embody our motto, “uncork the culture.” Founder Lashonda Fort-Modest believed that the minority community had been overlooked in the area of wine...

DURHAM, NC – In a Southside industrial park, the flora of innovation has borne her sweet fruit. Though Durham has a rich tradition of African American enterprise, the city has not had a Black-owned winery within its bounds – until now. LaShonda Fort Modest will shatter the wineglass ceiling on Friday, October 22 by officially opening Melanated Wine & Spirits. We heard it through the grapevine, folks!
In south Durham, Melanated Wine is finally off the ground. The owner, Illinois native Lashonda Modest, moved her family to North Carolina 10 years ago. "When anyone consumes our wine, you're uncorking the culture," said Modest.
Durham's first Black-owned winery opened on Wednesday in the Southside Industrial Park of Durham.
The owner aims to pour inspiration into others while making fine wine more accessible to all.
Good energy is a feeling that cannot be contained! Sangria should be a VIBE, and we accomplished this by combining Mango, excitement, and white grapes that will keep your party going all night. Served cold and crisp, our Sangria is a movement; to inspire bold, and courageous people, to be who they were designed to be unapologetically. Consider our Sangria a VIBE for those who move to the beat of their own drum and make their own rules.
